At Any Moment I Can Live

Life and death

There’s been a lot of unexpected deaths lately. I shared a few weeks ago how Mike passed at the age of 23 with his dreams still inside of him. Tommy Ford, famous actor on the hit TV sitcom ‘Martin’ passed just a few days ago. And a young 15 year old from my hometown of Lexington, KY lost her life when a stray bullet shot her in the head. Young deaths weighs on me. They always have. I like to believe in the fullness and longevity of life. I want to live a long time.

Yet, I’m constantly paranoid of dying before I’m ready.

I was on an airplane last night coming home to Houston from Washington, DC. Here I am flying nearly 30,000 feet in the air thinking, “I could die at any moment.” The plane could crash. I could die in a car accident from the airport to my house. I could have an aneurysm at any moment. I could be shot in the head by a stray bullet. And so on.

I hate those thoughts. Yet there I was thinking them.

Then the thought, “I could live at any moment” popped into my head.

Yes! At any moment I can live.

I can live my dreams.

I can have energy and vitality in my body.

I can experience new things.

I can create something I have never created before.

I can see something I’ve never seen before.

I can feel joy and happiness.

I can give. I can receive.

I can dance. I can sing.

I can laugh. I can love.

I can forgive.

I can believe.  I can hope.

I can live at any moment.

My spirit can come alive.

My heart can overflow.

My feet can hit the ground running in pursuit of everything tucked inside my heart.

My arms can wrap around someone that I love.

My smile could light up a room.

My eyes can witness the magic that surrounds me everyday.

My nose can smell the fragrance of life. My ears can hear the music of life.

My hands can feel and touch the gentleness and wonder of life.

I can choose life at any moment.

Instead of sitting around contemplating all the ways that I could die I’ve decided to imagine all that ways that I can live. I’ve decided to focus on all the ways I can give life to all the things in my life that have died. I have decided to spread life to those who have lost their own. I have decided to experience life in a way I have yet to experience it.

I’ve decided to live life to the fullest and I pray that God lets me stay around for a long time.
