Transformational Tuesday: Little Changes, Big Transformation

I dibble a little in real estate investment.  It is so exciting and I feel so accomplished to take an older, semi-run down house and give it a face lift.  Investors often say rehabbing a house is just paint, carpet, and appliances.  Now, that’s not completely true. There’s a little more to it, but what a difference a little fresh paint, new carpet, and upgraded appliances can make on a house.  These small changes can help a house appraise for thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars more than it otherwise would have.

Sometimes, when we think about transformation, whether our homes, bodies, or lives we think we have to make a huge transformation.  In reality, little changes can make a huge difference.

Little changes in our habits. I woke up an hour earlier than I usually do to work on this blog and my business. Waking up an hour earlier gives me seven additional hours in the week. What more can I accomplish in seven additional hours? How much sooner can I reach my goals?

Little changes in our thinking. Our beliefs often get challenged by life.  I’ve always believed I could create the life of my dreams. That is until I couldn’t. Deciding to believe again gets me going again towards my dream life. Not changing my thoughts keeps me in the same place.

Little changes in our eating. Eating breakfast if you never do or giving up meat for Meatless Mondays.

Little changes in our activity. Taking the stairs instead of the elevators.

Little changes in our appearance. Even a new outfit or hairdo can make a big difference for a lot of people. It can build confidence, get you out of a rut, and/or change how others perceive you.

I was listening to an audio program yesterday and the speaker said that our lives at this moment is the result of the sum of all the conscious and subconscious decisions we’ve made up until this point.  Based on this idea, all the little decisions we make overtime and added together have a big influence on where we are right now.  I often tell people, “If you keep doing what you’re doing today, in five years you’ll be in the same place as you are right now. But if you’ll make a new decision right now, in five years you’ll be in a new place.” Little changes today will lead you to a big transformation tomorrow.

What little changes will you make today?
