A Prayer to Hear Your Voice

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your word says that Your sheep hear Your voice, that You know them (us), and that they follow You. I come to you in awe and reverence asking to hear Your voice in a deeper way. You know my analytical, restless mind can drown out the subtle sound of your voice. But I long to hear from You. It is my deepest desire to follow Your will for my life. I want to go where You’d have me and avoid where You don’t want me to be. Lord, open my ears that I may hear. Speak louder when my thoughts are noisy. Let nothing separate me from Your voice.

Your word says in Isaiah 42:9 that You declare new things and that before they come into existence You will announce them. I pray to hear the new things You have declared in my life. Jeremiah 33:3 says that You will answer and tell of great things currently unknown. I pray that You would answer my call to You and reveal to me great and mysterious things I do not currently know. I pray that my heart and ears will be open to hear Your direction and revelations.

I know that You speak to me often. I just don’t hear often. Just yesterday You told me where to find my church badge. I had looked there many times before. You said, “Look again.” I said, “No, I’ve already checked there,” and still I slid my hand in the space between the driver’s seat and the center console and there it was. Sometimes I am in a good space to listen although I often doubt what I’ve heard. Please don’t give up on me. Please reassure and reaffirm me when I need it.

Speak to me Lord and open my ears to hear. And build in me the courage and the confidence to follow through. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
