Melanin Quotes That Will Make You Feel Good About the Skin You’re In

A white man asked a black woman if her daughter showered before getting in the pool at a California Westin hotel. Vice President candidate Kamala Harris was referred to as a monster while Michelle Obama was called a monkey during her time in the white house. Sometimes it feels like there is an attach on black. I’m often amazed at the stories I see floating across social media. I have to be honest, in my real life, I don’t see a lot of the foolishness so many others have to deal with.

America has a long history of treating minorities as inferior. Sadly, those feelings of inferiority still echo in the hearts of many young black men and women. Yet, black is beautiful. My melanin is poppin’. Even if you know this to be true, it’s great to be reminded every now and then.

Here are melanin quotes that will remind you who you are and ideally make you feel proud of and good about the melanin skin you’re in!

“Our melanin will always make us marvelous… Just imagine what that sea of sisterhood would look like. Magic!” – Alexandra Elle

“Melanin is an incomparable beauty. From the lightest to the darkest skin tone, Black women and Black girls are exquisite beauty in every shade. Yes, Black females have that special something that just can’t be ignored. We are Melanin Queens, beautifully created! Respect the complexion.” – Stephanie Lahart

“I am dripping melanin and honey. I am black without apology”. –Upile

“Melanin is the most ancient and worldwide pigment in living organisms. The very thing that colors the bark on trees brown and the soil of the earth. It dwells in your very essence.” – Unknown

“Their skin drips the melanin, it absorbs the sun rays too, their hairs are graciously curly, aren’t they magical human beings? At times I get jealous of them because, ‘black is beautiful’. The always makes my head turn!” – C. Vais Hnawi Rao

“Black girl magic means we can do anything we want. We are natural born leaders and we presevere through everything and when somebody says ‘No’ we smile and keep it moving.” – Tiki Sumpter

“Your beauty will be in shades of melanin and light.” – R.Y.S. Perez

“Like all readers, I want my limits to be drawn by my own sensibilities, not by my melanin count.” – Zadie Smith

“One day our descendants will think it incredible that we paid so much attention to things like the amount of melanin in our skin or the shape of our eyes or our gender instead of the unique identities of each of us as complex human beings.” – Franklin A. Thomas

“My melanin is powerful. It threatens the ignorant, challenges the misinformed. My articulation intimidates. It demands respect the moment I speak. You understand me clearly and with all that  all I’ve ever had to be, was black…” – Nii Lee Cyrus
