Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m on a personal challenge to blog EVERYDAY in November so even though it’s a holiday I’m sticking with the plan. But this will be brief. 🙂

Yesterday when I was looking up quotes for 51 Thanksgiving Quotes to Inspire You this Thanksgiving Season I came across this quote:

“Every Thanksgiving, we all write down three things we’re thankful for and put them in a hat. Then we pass the hat around the dinner table and everyone has to guess who wrote what!” – Debby Ryan

I promptly instant messaged the quote to my family and said, “Guess what we’re doing tomorrow!” So for today’s blog post I thought I’d share the three things I wrote down (in no specific order):

  1. My brother moved to Houston. My brother has been in and out of jail for several years. He was recently released in July after serving a couple years in Louisiana. As a part of his probation he was released to my mother here in Houston. Since arriving in Houston he has started working, fixed up my old Nissan Sentra to use for transportation and found his way around the city. There’s so much culture and different ethnic groups in Houston. My brother is going to museums and poetry readings and concerts. Houston has been good to him so far and there’s so many positive, eclectic things for him to do which is right up his alley.  Plus, we all get to bond as a family (even though he only hangs with the girls in 15 minute increments.? )
  2. Gathering with family in Houston for my sister’s graduation and then again for our birthday in September. It’s just always good to be around family. We love to pull out the karaoke machine and belt out our favorite tunes. Most of my family is in Kentucky, where I’m originally from. We don’t get together often so it’s always a blessed occasion when we do.
  3. New church friends. I’ve said before that I’ve always wanted a church family. I just love connecting with like-minded people, especially in an area that is so important to me. I can acknowledge that in a lot of ways I’m somewhat “different” than others, particularly in my age group. Even when I hang with friends it’s not uncommon for me to feel like I don’t quite fit in. I believe in God, Jesus, doing the right thing, building wealth, following dreams and pursuing possibilities.  So I’m so very thankful to be in a great community of other believers growing closer bonds day by day.

I’m also thankful for so much more, but those were my three. What about you? What’s three things you’re thankful for this holiday season and how can you exhibit a spirit of thanksgiving every day?
