A Prayer to be more Merciful

Mercy Letterpress

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your grace and your mercy. Thank you for not holding my transgressions, imperfections, and faults against me. Thank you for giving me second chance after second chance. I come to you today humbly asking to be transformed into a more merciful person. Help me to look past the transgressions, imperfections, and faults of others. Help me to release the desire to “hold them to the fire.” Help me to relinquish my stubbornness. As You know, it really bothers me when someone does something I think is rude, dishonest or hurtful and then pretend it never happened. I want them to own up to their actions and when they don’t I have a hard time moving forward with that relationship. Many of relationships have been ruined because of a lie here or an insult there. Help me to let those things go and to not hold a grudge. Help me to show mercy. I understand people are afraid and even embarrassed to admit their mistakes. I want to be the kind of person who takes it easy on them.  I need your help in controlling my mind so that I don’t harbor on what happened. I also need your help in letting go of what I thought they should have done. Show me how to address those instances that should be addressed and how to sweep the insignificant issues under the rug. Teach me how to know the difference between the two. I pray you show me how to be merciful with others the same way you are merciful with me.

In Jesus Name, Amen
