10 Reasons You Shouldn’t Give Up On Your Dreams

Dream big

1. Someone else needs your dreams

Your dreams are rarely ever just about you. Think about. What dreams do you have in your heart right now? See yourself in that reality. Really let it sink in. Who else is there with you? Who has benefited from your dream coming true? What has benefited from your dream? This could be people that you love and care about. It could be people that you help. It can be cities or countries or causes. Who do you see?

2. You deserve it

You’re a good person. You’ve made sacrifices for people you love. You’ve made sacrifices they aren’t even aware of. You’re unique and special. You are love. You give love to others. It is time to give love to yourself. Even if none of that was true you deserve it because why not? Name one good reason why you shouldn’t have what you desire. I can’t think of any.

3. Regret gets exhausting

Famous words by Miguel. People regret what they didn’t do more than what they did do. If you don’t go for this now, you’ll always wonder what if? And what could have been. You’ll ask yourself questions like “What life did I pass up on?” or “What experiences did I miss out on?” That gets exhausting!

4. Bigger dreams are waiting

I’m a firm believer that the dreams you are holding in your heart now are minuscule in comparison to the dreams and visions that will come to you once you fulfill your current dreams. When you start making progress towards your goals your awareness of what’s possible increases. Your vision expands. Your confidence grows. You are exposed to new things, new ideas, and new people. You have more capacity to dream bigger. The dreams you have now will lead to bigger, better dreams somewhere down the line.

5. Your gifts are related to your dream – Use them or lose them

It’s very likely that your dreams are related to your gifts. By not pursuing your dreams you’re not maximizing the potential of your gifts. What a shame is that? To know that you have these powerful gifts and abilities inside of you that you are not using.

When we’re growing up eating at the dinner table our parents tell us to eat all our food. “Someone in Africa is hungry, wishing they had something to eat.” What if someone told you when you were growing up, “Use all your gifts. Someone in the cemetery is wishing they had life to give to their gifts.”

6. You only live once

YOLO! You only live once. Unless of course you believe in reincarnation and then you’ll live over and over again. You won’t remember any of it though so that doesn’t matter anyway. You don’t get a chance a life. You get second chances in life. I’m a firm believer in fresh starts and new finishes. However, you just can’t relive any moment. “There are no dress rehearsals in life.” Every minute is the real deal.

7. If you don’t use your talents you’re lazy

Hey, don’t get mad at me! It’s in the bible. Matthew 25:14-25 tells the story of the parable of the talents. A man went on a journey and left his talents with three of his servants. Two of the servants put the talents to work and multiplied them (see #4). The third servant buried his talent. He was too afraid to lose them. The Master was angry. He yelled to him, “You wicked and slothful servant!”

Don’t bury your talent or your dreams. Sometimes it seems like the easy way out but in the end it’s the painful way. The last line of that passage says, “And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” If you bury your talents and dreams you may end up in the outer darkness weeping. Don’t do that to yourself. Pulease!

8. You’ll never know what you’re made of

Achieving great things takes a lot of effort. There will be obstacles that come up. Your own mind will start to play tricks on you. Your emotions will stir up different feelings in you. At every turn you will have the thought to give up. When you fight those thoughts, obstacles, limiting beliefs, and emotional turmoil to get what is rightfully yours you will finally see what you’re made of. And let me tell you, you’re made of AMAZING things. Trust me. If you stay where you are and settle for good enough you’ll never know what amazing goodness you have inside of you.

9. People you love are watching

When I started investing in real estate soooooo many people in my life started as well. My cousin bought a duplex. My girlfriends were calling me asking me what mentors and coaches I worked with. My coworkers wanted to pick my brain (over a glass of wine per my requirements). That one decision changed so many other people’s lives. I didn’t tell them they should invest. I didn’t call them up and say, “hey you got to do this.” No, I just pursued my dreams. That gave other people the ideas, the confidence, and the drive to go after their dreams as well.

For as long as I can remember my mother had been taking classes in the evening to finish college. She never told me I had to go to college. Yet there was never a question in my mind what to do after high school. I just knew. I watched my mother. She lit the path. All I had to do was follow. She now has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. (Shout-out to my mom!)

Somebody is watching you. Somebody is going to learn what they can and can’t do by watching you. It’s not what you’ll ever say to them. They’re watching what you do. They’re watching what dreams you pursue or what excuses you make. Who needs your dreams? Is it your daughter? Your sister? Who?

10. What’s important is not the dream, but the woman you must become to achieve the dream

I believe life is about growing: spiritually, physically, emotionally, and financially. I believe we are meant to grow just like the caterpillar transforms into the butterfly. Pursing your dream will stretch you so far and wide. You will grow. You will be required to grow to achieve all the dreams you have for your life. With that growth comes fulfillment, purpose, and joy. With that growth comes a powerful woman you don’t fully know yet. Are you ready to meet her?
